All are welcome!
Fourth Monday Poets, a sub-group of District Five, will next meet on Monday, Sept. 28th at 2:00 p.m. at Prairie Homestead Retirement Center's Garden Room, 1605 May St., Wichita. (Prairie Homestead is in west Wichita, one block west of South Seneca St. on May Street which is the 2000 block south of Douglas, just past Harry Street a few blocks.)
We always plan to meet at this facility, however sometimes we must make exceptions. When holidays intervene we may skip a month. There is no cost. We always have a read-around. Readers are to bring copies for each participant. We offer critique when asked, affirmation and encouragement. It is a congenial support group.
Lily Angle was one of the earliest members of this group, which has been meeting for over five years. There was recent discussion of having those who recall more of the history compile memories in writing. Nancy Glenn and Evelynn Boal will lead the group for now.

March Meeting notes, by Judy Hatteberg Wichita State University associate professor Dan Close led a lively and informative workshop on “Killing the Babies: Editing your Work” at the March 14, 2009, meeting of Kansas Author's Club. Close told numerous stories and gave examples of good and bad writing from his years of teaching and reporting. He related that “a vital part of writing is editing out the dumb, ugly and awkward.” He said that Hemingway was right; “the most important part of writing is what readers don't get to read.” Close has taught basic media writing, feature writing and various other classes at WSU since 1990. Before that, he was a reporter and editor for the Wichita Eagle and Beacon for fourteen years. His handout included samples of feature stories he had written for the Wichita Eagle. 4-6-2009
